Important Reasons to Visit a Dental Clinic Immediately

Dentist Blog

Do you currently have a dental problem? Are you trying to decide whether to visit an emergency dental clinic or wait for an appointment with your usual dentist? Here are some reasons to visit the dentist as soon as possible.

Dislodged tooth

You may be under the impression that a tooth will be gone forever if it gets knocked out of its socket. However, this is simply not true. The sooner you can visit the dentist, the greater chance you have of saving the tooth. If the tooth has been knocked out of your mouth completely, locate the tooth and grab it by the crown only. In order to prevent damage to the root, you should rinse the tooth in gently running water without scrubbing or scraping. In order to transport the tooth to the dental clinic, reinsert the tooth into the socket if possible. Otherwise, carry the tooth in your mouth between your cheek and gums or in a glass of whole milk. If the tooth is allowed to dry out, the dentist may not be able to save your tooth.

Abscessed tooth

If you have a toothache at all, you should definitely see a dentist as soon as possible. If you have an obvious abscess, it's especially critical to visit your nearest dental clinic. An untreated abscess can easily spread infection to other parts of your body. If the abscess spreads, it could even cause sepsis, which is a potentially deadly blood infection. By treating your abscessed tooth as soon as possible with oral antibiotics, you'll be able to avoid a potentially lengthy hospital stay.

Sudden tooth sensitivity

Many people struggle with sensitive teeth. If you have previously discussed your sensitive teeth with your dentist, then this probably doesn't apply to you. But if you suddenly experience a change in tooth sensitivity, this could be a sign of a more serious issue. For example, you may have had normal teeth before, but now you are experiencing pain when you try to drink a cup of hot coffee. If this has happened to you, it's important to visit a dental clinic as soon as possible. This new sensitivity could be a sign that you have an infection that could turn into a more serious abscess.

If you are wondering whether or not you should visit a dental clinic for a particular issue, it's probably time to do so. The sooner you're able to be prescribed treatment for the problem, the sooner your teeth will start to feel normal again.
